Sometimes you don't feel the benefit of Design team meetings until you see the finished results. Passed this project last week that we supplied Fab-Lite brick slip chimneys to Linden Homes and could see lots of key elements that we discussed incorporated and looking good.
Blue sky in London yesterday so took the opportunity to get a few snaps of the Great Scotland Yard Hotel project we have been supplying precast brick features on.
The traditional details above and below the windows on the new facade really work well and blend perfectly with the surrounding buildings. The Main Contractor Galliard Homes used FLB Dark Multis from Mickelmersh Brick as the main facing area with Charnwood Hampshire Reds and Colliers Red Handmade for our feature brick areas. The Brick aprons below the windows and the Flat Gauged/Bullseye/Oriel arches above and around the windows were all formed using dovetail cut bricks pre-cast into concrete panels and delivered ready for installation as single piece components.
Great to be involved in such a historic landmark building being regenerated and using all our skills to create traditional looking features with modern Off-Site production methods.
More images to follow when the scaffolding is removed from the other elevations.
Walking through Chelsea last week and noticed the large brick faced steel framed stacks we had supplied last year were now in place on the roof. Tried to get in to get some better shots but apparently security has been extremely tight since it was alleged Mr Clapton was looking for a London base to strum on his guitar. The brick corbel detail worked well and great that these could be supported directly off the roof without having a chimney breast running right through the centre of the block losing valuable floor space.
Christmas shut down has been very productive at Fab-Lite this year.
We have taken the opportunity to knock down the old original cutting shed and replace it with a new modern lighter, bigger, warmer facility.
Our site has a long history of wool and textile production from the early 20th century but the last 40 years of brick cutting in the unit had definitely taken its toll on the old building.
New facility is up and running this week and great to see production recommence following the hard work put in by all to ensure the minimum about of disruption to the key element of a brick fabrication Company.
If it lasts as long and produces as many cut bricks as the old unit, we will be very happy!
