With blue skies in London yesterday we took the opportunity to get a few snaps of the Great Scotland Yard Hotel project which we have been supplying precast brick features on.
The traditional details above and below the windows on the new facade really work well and blend perfectly with the surrounding buildings. The Main Contractor Galliard Homes used FLB Dark Multi's from Mickelmersh Brick as the main facing area with Charnwood Hampshire Reds and Colliers Red Handmade for our feature brick areas. The Brick aprons below the windows and the Flat Gauged/Bullseye/Oriel arches above and around the windows were all formed using dovetail cut bricks pre-cast into concrete panels and delivered ready for installation as single piece components. It was great to be involved in such an historic landmark building being regenerated and using all our skills to create traditional looking features with modern off-site production methods.

Christmas shut down has been very productive at Fab-Lite this year. We have taken the opportunity to knock down the old original cutting shed and replace it with a new modern lighter, bigger, warmer facility.
Our site has a long history of wool and textile production from the early 20th century but the last 40 years of brick cutting in the unit had definitely taken its toll on the old building. Our new facility is up and running this week and it's great to see production recommence following the hard work put in by all to ensure the minimum about of disruption to the key element of a brick fabrication Company. If it lasts as long and produces as many cut bricks as the old unit, we will be very happy! |
